I have read a number of old posts regarding the interpretation of LACs and SIDs and Tower/Sector IDs on Verizon CDMA while conducting field tests. I am presently working with datalogging from my DROID to create a database for Utah and Colorado. I have a recent database of sites that I acquired from Verizon through subpoena. Problem is that the SID/Tower Id from the DROID, SID/Tower ID from the Verizon database, and the SID/Tower ID from a field test phone are all different numbers. My question is how to resolve these numbers to properly identify the tower from the DROID data and Test Mode.

An example
Verizon Database for Rockville, UT tower
-113.0319 37.15248 315 D1 290 -113.0319 694 SOUTH RADIO TOWER ROAD (700 EAST) ROCKVILLE UT 84763 D1 290

Android reports for that same tower (and sector)
-113074184 37160675 4411 -88 4/23/2010 806 310 1740 2 4411 58593057 23303989 EVDO_A -60 IDLE NO

Field Test report from LG-9700
Active Pilot 168, SID 1740.

These three reports come from the same position (presumed for Verizon Database data). So how can I logically resolve the differing identifications of 315 (Verizon Database), 4411 (Droid data), and 168 (Field Test Phone)? By formula?

Still no takers on this question? Surely, there must be a working formula…..

What are you using to log the data on the Droid? At a quick glance it looks as though the output reads NID=2 SysID=1740 (matches LG) BsID=310 but its not a format I am familiar with. Curious myself as to the meaning of 4411.

Be careful mixing and matching terminology - in particular if you have to provide testimony. LAC/CID in GSM is not necessarily equivalent to SID/BID in CDMA although most websites seem to use them interchangeably.

For an non-authoritative (dated) SID reference I use http//www.roamingzone.com/sid/ (which lists 1740 as 01740 UTAH 05 CARBON B Verizon Wireless).

Cheers,
Steve
