I've used JADsoftware's Encrypted Disk Detector (EDD) before. It's free and useful to quickly detect full-disk encryption before deciding to pull the power.

My company has a free tool that can check for disk encryption. It's called encrypted disk detector and can be downloaded for free at www.jadsoftware.com

Every case last year I worked on had an encrypted device.

They were (in order of most to least,) BitLocker, TrueCrypt, Sophos SafeGuard, PGP and EFS encrypted.

Full disk, file level, and even nested encryption.

Hi,

Encryption is still pretty rare. I tend to find it isn't present in most cases. If I run the hash set and I get nothing then it's just a quick way of indicating there probably isn't any. My answer was more a suggestion for 'ruling it out' when you aren't expecting it to be there.

[…]

Just a few thoughts anyway.

Steve
