How are people downloading email from Hotmail for subsequent analysis? Hotmail doens't support IMAP so collecting the contents of all folders, and not just the inbox, appears to be non-straightforward. Nuix/Proof Finder allows for connecting to POP and IMAP accounts, but using the POP option only brings back the content of the inbox.

Anyone?

You can use the Outlook Hotmail Connector http//office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/microsoft-office-outlook-hotmail-connector-overview-HA010222518.aspx

If you know the log in ID and password you can install windows live mail and download all you want.

I can't quite get my head around why you would want to download a suspect's hotmail for subsequent analysis. Surely that's interception of communications and requires all sorts of RIPA authorities or court orders and can't be used evidentially anyway?

There are circumstances where such a collection would be permissible; for example, with the mailbox owner's consent. Without the owner's consent or a court order you probably wouldn't have access to the account anyway.

Perhaps you need to step outside the prosecution mindset.

I'm working on behalf of a defandant who has instructed his solicitor that his Hotmail account contains mitigating emails which he's requested are produced.

Yes, the owner of the account has provided me with the necessary credentials. Logging in directly is not very 'clean' however; I'd prefer to download so that all folders, (sent, drafts, etc including custom folders) are replicated locally.

@lars thanks, I had come across the Outlook Hotmail replicator previously, will perhaps revisit it.

@alastairfay, not yet but most probably will. Still canvassing as much opinion as I can. Thanks.

Ah, of course. I hadn't thought about this from a defence point of view.

I use hotmail connector attached to a clean PST on outlook, this has always served my purpose very well.

Recently I have been informed that NUIX's collector also does mail!
