SEEB was restructured back in '03 after they got a big federal grant for CT but I didn't hear about any outsourcing. I expect they had the Feds or CCIU do some of their work during the restructuring, and it could have been on some corporate cases that complainants had private work done because they didn't want to wait.

I think Eco's confusion arises out of the Computer Crime unit (Bruce VgG's unit) being part of the Crime Commission, whereas SEEB is NSWPol. SEEB's CF guys are all/mostly civvy last I heard, with some sworn guys doing some collections stuff.

CCIU is NSWPOL working with NSWCC, but the rest is quite accurate -)

Hello all,

I am in my final year at northumbria studying CF. It is getting close to the end of the line at university and I'd like to persue a CF career in the future. Like the OP I am interested in going abroad to work. In particular I am interested in Canada and Aus.

I know this topic has been dead for a while but hopefully it rekindles! I have a few questions for you guys.

1) I have no official IT experience. I did a short placement at school at a software engineering company but thats it. Should I get a years experience in an IT field before thinking of a CF job home or abroad?

2) Is the CF industry as competitive in Canada and Aus as it is in the UK? I know it is quite competitive here in the UK and placements/jobs are hard to get without a placement year under your belt.

3) Would you recommend I contact a recruiter? If so are there any that have good contacts abroad? I've heard great things about a couple of recruiters on here from my course mates.

Sorry for the long post and questions, but I've had a look online for some resources but haven't found anything up to date or worthwhile. I do regard myself as having good technical and writing skills (don't judge me by this post) but I fear my lack of experience will hinder my job opportunities.

Thanks in advance,
Iain

Speaking for the Maritimes in Canada (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador) - the CF market is virtually non-existant for non-LE. The private sector here has very offerings in the CF field; While I'm not 100% sure about provinces such as Ontario, Quebec, BC and Alberta, a search on various job banks yielded virtually no results.

I would have thought that the most opportunities are in the UK since the Police outsource CF work so private sector opportunities are more readily available than in Canada…

But I would urge you to use various Canadian job search engines and have a look yourself )

Thanks for the reply mate. Yeah the market in the UK seems to be very good, but I fancy moving somewhere else, the UK isn't for me really. I will have a look when I can at some search engines that you mentioned.
