Hi,

We are investigating an number of backup sets, we have one that is made up of 50+ 1GB files, but when we attempt to recover it usings NTBackup, firstly the catalogue appears to be damaged and the full filesystem fails to be presented, then during the restore process it fails after a while.

Can anyone recommed good recovery software for corrupt NTBackups. Ive tried recovering through Backup Exec and NTBackup.

Thanks,

Jm25

Which OS were the .bkf made on?
Which OS are you running now?

Check these
http//www.forensicfocus.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=9239/
http//www.msfn.org/board/topic/162290-corrupt-split-bkf-file/

(no endorsement of any software, mind you, there are a bunch of Commercial tools that claim to be able to recover those files, but of course YMMV )

From what you write, the issue may be with just the catalog, there is the possibility that a given "catalog" file gets "mismatched" with the actual file(s).

The mentioned tool
http//code.google.com/p/bkfjtools/
should be able to access the files ignoring the catalog. ?

You can also try to convert the files into .tar archives
http//gpl.internetconnection.net/
http//gpl.internetconnection.net/mtftar.readme

And try this

I remember to have used successfully the "old" NTBKUP.exe, but of course what worked for me might not work on a different kind of corruption

I can make no promises but try my demo 'www.cnwrecovery.com'

One significant fact that may help is that it does not rely on the catalog to read the backup file. Thus an incomplete backup can be read. In the demo the log should show the files that can be recovered
