I have a pst file that, when examined with a hex editor, has all 0's; however, the size is about 2.3 GB. When importing from Outlook, it is not recognized as a valid pst file. I know this is a pst file since it was recently accessible as of two weeks ago.

The file has the apporpriate rights, and I used scanpst to repair it, but failed to repair.

Are there any tools out there that can perhaps aid me in repairing or at least recover most of the emails? If anyone can provide any suggestions, it would be much appreciated.

OutlookRecovery, which is part of the Mail Recovery Suite has the ability to fix some corrupted PST files.

Is the file 100% zeros? If totally zeros, then no repair will find anything.

You will need to work on any backups you have.

Have you tried to dump the PST into individual MSGs? If the indexing is intact, some tools will just skip over & log corrupt messages, but still extract okay ones.

Outlook has problems with pst-files over 2 GB. You can "recover" 2 GB by using an MS-tool http//www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?amp;displaylang=en&id=12972

If it's a broken pst-file you can try recreating the index using the tool scanpst which is also installed with Outlook.

Guys, as mscotgrove pointed out, if the file is really ALL zero's, a tool isn't going to be of much use here….
Edit Why is this being replied to now, its from three years ago p

Greetings,

First post, and it is to promote a product, in a thread from 2008, where the OP states that the file contains all zeros.

Perhaps this thread should be locked?

Or more simply spamming posts deleted and spamming members banned?
