I had a need to examine the contents of a Corsair Padlock 2 thumb drive over the weekend. These drives are locked with a pin code and the v2 version has added AES encryption. I found numerous articles talking about how easily the protection of the original padlock could be overcome, but I was staggered to find the following information relating to the newer v2 - which provided immediate access for me - and thought I'd post it in case it's of use to anyone else
Data security alert
Corsair has discovered a security problem which could expose data on its Flash Padlock 2 USB Flash drive. The company says the security issue is able to be fixed by the user of the Padlock drive, which uses a keyboard and programmable personal identification number or PIN to allow users to protect their data.
Currently, it seems, if a user presses Key and 0/1 for more than three seconds, the Padlock will erase the password without deleting the data on the drive, presenting a security risk.
