The DoD is a federal agency. Without knowing the full deatis of the OP, I am pretty sure if he is being asked to look for IIOC then it will be legal.

Sure the DoD is a Federal Agency, and most probably they know what they are doing, but the OP posted he was a contractor for the DoD, and I never said that it wasn't legal, I said how I found it "queer".
What is IIOC? ?

I wouldn't call it a PC term, I would call it what it is. CP is horrible term, it's not Porn, it's rape.

Boy do I hate when you in the works use acronyms! (

What does PC mean?

Yes, I know it means Politically Correct, but how much does it cost to type a few more letters and make the post more easily readable?

But manuld is possibly very right on the actual IIOC vs. CP.

Here, at least AFAIK, Child Pornography is actual photos or "realistic" images/drawings and not such things as defined in the US, including cartoons.

The good guys under have yet another approach, seemingly

I hate to pull rank here, but seriously, it is a federal crime to possess CP unless you specifically work for law enforcement. We've even arrested defendants' attorneys for it. DoD should contact ICE, the federal LE agency tasked for this duty.

And I've also been a federal government contractor - there is absolutely no way non-LE should be inspecting computers for CP if there is reasonable suspicion. That's what law enforcement is for.

Did you get a warm feeling when a defendants attorney was arrested?

Please remember this, but for the grace of God, it could be you, I, or any other person by virtue of an overzealous prosecutor, AUSA, or anyone else who could plant something, retain someone to make an image, and then drop a dime. Seem farfetched, like it could never happen, think again.

You're really new to this board, and the discussions on if you find something, and how to get to examine CP without giving up your defense strategy are plentiful.

It's beyond farfetched - it's actually ludicrous and insulting. The people I worked with in LE were the salt of the earth who worked tirelessly day and night without overtime to protect children. The sheer volume of work did not permit anyone to plant evidence, especially CP. For you to insinuate so demonstrates your complete lack of understanding of how cybercrime is investigated in law enforcement.

And those attorneys were arrested because of their egos; they were even warned beforehand not to carry out the materials. In one case, the attorney bragged about it, so the officer really had no choice.

For the record; IIOC is the legal term for it here in the UK. So you will see a lot of UK folks use it. )

In Australia CEP is becoming the common use (Child Exploitation Material) but as there don't appear to be too many Aussies here you probably won't see that used much P
