You are trying to create a keyword list (attack dictionary) from an image to use with passware is that right?

What's wrong with using FTK to make the word list?

Xways forensics does this as well, not sure but I'm assuming EnCase does as well and there are probably lots of other freeware that will have a go once the image is mounted but I can't see any advantage to not using FTK to do the job if you already have it.

Just my two cents…

I have found that FTK normalizes the dictionary which could be an issue if you're after an 'as typed' password. Oddly, DTsearch has the option of creating a case sensitive keyword list.

Interesting subject

Could be a project for a student - create a application that will parse a Encase 6 & 7 images create a file of all possible words. User defined

between X and X length

keeping UpperCase and LowerCase

and export to a .dic file (basically a txt file with one word per line, for passware)

Encase 7 has this as a built in feature. If you have indexed and produce a Passware export, that will include a text file of words in that index.

The passware export is accessible via the tools menu.

Think also about non-text files, compound files, compressed files, encrypted files, etc . . .
