For such an important event the digital forensics community has been very quiet.

I have already run into an encrypted Samsung that even Samsung could not decrypt.

Similar experience here, too, Ed.

I suspect we all knew it was coming with every later edition of iPhone etc. I wrote back in May 2014 about changes iPhone factory reset bars access to revelation http//trewmte.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/iphone-factory-reset-bars-access-to.html about the changing tide, but I cannot realistically see Apple being unable to provide the decryption services. It is a bit like manufacturing an exploding device and then telling everyone you cannot defuse the thing you have made.

Now Google has its own phone division isn't difficult to see them following suit.

There is along way to go yet and a wide range of devices still operative in the field yet to have the later encryption.

I have seen many comments by people on here that iPhone 4S and 5 are encrypted therefor no deleted data can be recovered..yet time after time, week after week I'm able to recover deleted data from these phones (both logical and physical) and also recover data from uninstalled apps.

So when a mobile phone company tells me they are encrypting their phones and all our data is now safe and secure, I take it with a very big pinch of salt wink

You must be reading from peoples discussion regarding backup encryption from iOS devices - as we know we can brute force these with EPPB etc to access the files. Furthermore, 4S+ hardware encryption, last time I checked we cannot JTAG/Chip-Off? wink

I am yet to receive an encrypted Android device, but by the sounds of it we are going to be in for a bumpy ride… I guess we'll just have to start issuing more of 'Section 53 - Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000' in the UK…
