Does anyone know if a phone records date when the phone was turned on last?

Some additional information that was just relayed to me the phone is a motorola adventure v750 with Verizon as the carrier. Does Verizon keep information as to the last time the phone connected to the network?

I trust you have downloaded the V750 manual
http//www.motorola.com/Consumers/Archive/US-EN/ARCHIEVED-DO-NOT-USE-Motorola-Adventure-V750-US-EN

Verizon may keep a record when the MS last registered to the network. Registering and switching ON are not necessarily the same thing.

Some handsets record when the phone was last powered down, however this date/time would originate from the handset clock.

You would probably need to perform a physical acquisition and decode it in order to find it though.

Thanks for the number. I call Verizon Law Enforcement Team and they said they did not keep records as to when the phone connected to the network. They only keep activity information..

I'd like to know more about your case if you don't mind sharing. Maybe in a generic sense? Change the names to protect the innocent and such?

I don't know if this applies, but if I send you an SMS and your phone is off it won't be delivered to your handset unless the phone is on. "Atleast in my experience." Now when You turn your phone on it will receive the message provided enough time has not elapsed for the message to have been purged from the system. IF you had a situation like that I believe under the right circumstances it might be reasonable to say that when the phone was turned on and communicated with the network to say "Hey, I'm here" the time associated with an incoming SMS or network acquisition could give you a ball park time of when the phone was turned on.

Do you have enough PC for a Court Order? They may be better able to help if they had some judicial process? IMO

It may be the response you received might largely have been defined by how the question/s was/were asked.

Strange that Verizon wouldn't keep a record in the databases for the last time MS IMSI-detached occurred and other issues. How on earth do they determine where to route or handle incoming calls?

I have found with LEA teams that quite often they are put in those roles because they only have a certain level of knowledge and invariably anything beyond a certain type of data request they would have to go away and ask someone else. It would be highly unusual to allow LEA Teams (a customer service liaison) anywhere near back-office databases.

Greg,

I’m hoping that he will provide just a bit more information than what he has already. With Verizon working off of CDMA I believe what he would be looking for is some type of MS MEID Attach documentation? Without a doubt Verizon needs to know where my handset is so they can properly route calls to me, but do they retain the information of where my handset actually is or goes? If a handset didn’t send/receive a call, send/receive an SMS/MMS, or communicate with the internet I doubt they retain much data on what the phone does. In this case it appears he wants to know if a handset was turned on at a specific time?

I’m not sure why he is asking, but if he is LE and the phone was taken into custody and powered off and they then powered up the phone (curiosity getting the better of them) where it downloaded data it could be easily determined with a forensic inspection that the device was powered on.

Regardless of why he wants to know I must say this. In my experience Verizon has one of the most LE friendly LERT groups out there, but you don’t always get the same answer from analyst to analyst. Additionally, and I hate to say it, these TellCo’s are like Onions. They’re layered. Sometimes you need to ask for a technical analyst or engineer rather than someone that is just dealing with fielding calls.

Cheers!
