Go with Bitheads first suggestion of using FTK Imager. You can open the files by selecting the first .001 under the "Open Image" option. Then navigate to the files you want and export them. Should work fine with no conversion necessary.

I really don't mean to be an idiot about this stuff. I'm a programmer and this is all new to me.
I launched FTK Imager, attached the USB drive, browsed to the directory containing the files, selected file 001. I don't see anything on the screen that would indicate that the file could be opened. I can export the file but that just exports it as is to my local drive.

When I select "Add Evidence Item" another window opens prompting me to select
Physical Drive, Logical Drive, Image File, Contents of a Folder.
Which one should I select?

And, Thanks for the help.
