Touchy touchy. If you'd been more up front, there'd be little to no discussion about your credentials. There are all sorts of questionable people who appear on these forums unfortunately and we're entitled to a bit of cynicism.

Nah screw that you were one of the first ones. Your a horrible person to stoke the fire and get three pages of people that don't know me to try and say that I am producing CP when all I did was ask about a file. I work 2 jobs go to school full time and have a wife and son and another one on the way to be going through this.

I came on here because I sought insight to a question that I had.

So you PM me I got a few choice words for you. Better yet why don't you call me. PM and I will give my cell phone so we can talk about this more in depth.

I'll bite.

David is not at fault here, your message wasn't worded well at all. He is very well liked here and provides an incredible amount of help to people who post here.

Back to the business part.

Your boss has a Federal court order saying he can have CP in your office and you can examine it? Does it also name you personally, most all orders outline who can look at it by name, not just a blanket Acme Company (no disrespect to the Road Runner or the Coyote) can examine the HDD.

Can you tell us what court that is from and the language of the order, there are lots of defense people who would like to know how the order was worded. I'd expect you would want to provide that data and help clear things up.

Thanks

You offered your company, so

I'll bite back.

Well how did Mark answer my question? Is he smarter than your buddy David? Is he smarter than you? It seems by his response he is as he was able to not stoke the fire but answered the question to his best ability. Is this how you answer all question, by assumptions and then start to place blame and accuse people?

I don't care if I worded it in gibberish. You could have asked me to rephrase the question. Have you no class? Instead the group accused me of being a felon and producing CP. This is close to libel.

I don't have the answers that you are looking for as it is 10 pm here but I can get them for you. I have no problem with this as this is a learning task for me and I will be able to see a court order for the first time.

Remember I am an intern and I literally walked into the office and he said this is what we are doing.

Guys,

I realise that this will make me as unpopular as always but I think Joshsevo has a valid gripe with the way this was approached by some people - not in terms of substance perhaps but at least the tone adopted.

It seemed fairly clear to me early on that this chap is trying his best to deal with a situation he's facing for the first time which we should applaud, even if there are misgivings about what he's been tasked to do. If we are concerned about good practice by all means let's address it but as sensitively as possible, keeping in mind that a) we don't know all the facts, and b) issues of good practice are rarely the fault of the trainee/intern.

@Joshsevo - there's good advice in this thread, both specific to your situation and of a broader nature which I'm sure will be useful to you further down the line. It's also well intentioned, I assure you.

Jamie

Jamie is right.

There have been several times I have seen new guys post questions and the " " Sr guys post questions back and get into a long drawn out discussion about the issue without answering the question.

It's fine to question, I found the fact that an intern was working on this to be a little hinky myself. We don't allow interns to touch evidence period (let alone even see CP) (sorry Josh) but people's freedom depends on that work.

If you were the defendant, would you want in intern (would you want you) to be doing you defense work? Or the Prosecution work?

On the other side of the hinkiness, let's use our head and do a little risk analysis - IF you were the guy that owned/possessed the CP material, would you make a post on public BB saying that you had some if you did not have some story/reason to back you up? Seems unlikely.

Really, WE may not know who or where Josh is, but Jamie does. It's not like he did not leave a trail (most likely, yes he could use a proxy etc..) (FYI-sometimes a proxy just hurts more - see the details of the Sarah Palin email hacking case).

Josh, I understand you ticked, but flaming isn't going to help. I suspect your still lingering to see what everyone says. Keep coming back, there are answers here. Try to understand, CP is a delicate issue - you may not know this but the victims maintain ownership of those photos and can sue for damages in civil court even 20-30 years later. The NCMEC (Nat Center for Missing Exploited Children) has current contact data on identified victims on their CVIP Hash sets (Child Victim Ident Prog) and will tell the victims if they want to be notified that their images showed up in another case.

I suspect Kovar and armresl and the others were just trying to keep bad things from happening to you.

Kudos to your mentor for 15 years in ICE. As for SCERS, I grad there as well. The course is good, but it only teaches BASIC forensic recovery, not how to deal with issues like this.

Cheers and kudos to you for standing up for yourself, though perhaps a little strongly.

Mark.

Thanks for your post. It was helpful and encouraging that there are people out there that are not out trying to tear me down.

In regards to your advice. I will look at this differently now and in the future I will think more about posting questions pertaining to CP as I understand that the victims can once again relive their past. This was not my intention at all.

I got three hours if sleep last night as I was up all night thinking about this. Luckily my boss who literally laughed when I told what I posted assured me that here was nothing illegal.

I am disappointed in how this was handled by the senior members. I am a moderator on a another large forum of a hobby of mine and I know that certain questions bring drama or can be taken the wrong way. But in this case I let my guard down as I thought that everyone was a professional and would have not gotten the responses that I did. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. I will live by this on this forum.

I don't like being bullied and I can and will defend myself.

Mods pleaded close the thread as the answer I have gotten answered my question. Thanks.
