Hi,

I've got 2 questions in this subject

1- Is there a free tool to fully extract/delete metadata from Office and PDF documents ? (I've already tried some)

2- Is it possible to remove/edit the Owner data, and dates from a document ?

Extract, yes. I've written some. Delete? I have never looked for any.

Yes. This can be done manually, or by the application.

Sorry I didn't explained myself.

1- I meant to delete, for extraction I've already got some apps.

2- I meant to edit the File owner, not the Document owner.

And what about the Saved and "Content Created" dates ?

One way to completely get around document metatdata in an office document is very simple.

Just open the document, select all, and paste it into a new document.

The metadata will not carry over.

It's not free, but Metadataminer Catalogue is very cheap and will let you replace some metadata (not dates) with others that you choose.

Why do you want to do this anyway?

Cheers

Theres a program called "metadata assistant" that will allow you to sanitise metadata in documents.

Its quit good for extraction also and can recurse directories.

It does call word in the back end though, so there is a different executeble for excel.

I have read the reviews, purchased and actually used Detective Detective to Clean Up a PII Breach. It' s a great tool for $300

DOCUMENT DETECTIVE
Document Detective was designed specifically to prevent inadvertent data disclosures when classified Government or Business documents are downgraded. The software can identify and sanitize more than 100 types of hidden data, including Ad Hoc Review data, Meta data, tracked changes, comments, embedded object linking and embedding (OLE) files, embedded objects and object fragments.
