For some odd reason, and this is the only time I have seen this, I have copied out a file from EnCase (Copy/Unerase) and when I try to execute the file (its an executable) I get an error message saying that I don't have permissions to do that. For instance I copied the file out to the desktop and also to a vmware image and tried to run strings against the file. Didn't have permissions. Then I tried to copy the .exe file to my vmware image and got the error Cannot determine local file size, you may not have permissions to perform the operation or the file might not exist. I am running 6.15 Encase on Windows 7, and 6.12 on Windows XP, I get the same message with each system.

Any thoughts…

Did you check or modify the permissions on the file after you got the message?
