We indexed files in dtSearch and ran k/w search. We are using index library for multiple users to do simultaneous search. However the resulting .msg files from Search results are not opening up for all the users.
It throws an error 8004011, "mapi_e_logon failed…" Data and index resides on different drives. I am not sure if it is a mapping issue or something to do with Outlook.
HELP PLEASE!!
Could be a PST issue. I'm also assuming that you attached the PST files to Outlook rather than extracting all to MSG using mapitool…please clarify.
Everyone needs Outlook installed (which installed mapi32.dll).
I think I disagree about the "requirement" of Outlook being installed. It must be installed to index whole mailboxes (.pst files), and you have to open the data files themselves with Outlook before. In that, I agree.
However, if what you are trying to index is just .msg files, they are no longer mailboxes, but individual files, and dtSearch will index them with no actual use of Outlook; the will be just Office files like .doc or .xls files.
Therefore, I don't really know what your problem might be. Have you done anything manually in the directories structure after creating the indexes? Other problem I have faced before is the character map the files are using for their names. For example, I am Spanish, and some files just wouldn't open because they contained a "ñ" or a "ü" character. I don't know if you are having trouble with ALL of your .msg files, or only with some of them.
Hope it helps… somehow.
1. Are you using dtSearch Desktop or Web - if the Web, it may be an issue related to how you configured the access to a virtual directory.
2. Yes, the mapping is important - generally, it's pretty useful to have a way of consistent placing and naming when it comes to dtSearch, both when it comes to the data you are indexing as well as the index and index library path.
3. Outlook needs to be installled when you use dtSearch Desktop and index the whole .pst file. You also need the Outlook mapi file when you use mapitool for extraction of a .pst file to .msg files. Afterwards (meaning indexing) it is not needed.
My suggestion would be to create a dedicated folder to the case. Place there the input data (.pst or .msgs), create a new index library (also in this folder, e.g. _lib) and then index (also in this folder, e.g. _index). Then try it again.
