Hi Guys
I met a very strange problem recently. I can hardly delete my cache file, because Windows OS always prompt "discovering items…" when I deleting the cache folder. And the discovering process will hanging up for several hours. I tried to delete the folder in safe mode, by Windows PE drive, same result.
so, is there any good solution to delete it? on the other hand, what's the best practice for encase cache folder, what I mean, do I need a separated disk only for cache file? Any suggestion for the hardware of this disk? SSD better?
Thanks
I am making the assumption that you are using Encase v7 in my reply here. Encase uses the cache folder to store information on your cache in proprietary, database, bin, and logical container formats created by Encase as you load evidence. The reasoning is to speed up case load times rather than have all this information load into memory as it did in Encase v6. It is very advisable to have a separate drive from which evidence loads, a drive for the evidence cache and case folders reside, and a separate backup drive (though this is not necessary). Ideally you would load evidence through a write blocker of some sort direct from the working copy you made of the evidence - that's one drive. Encase would (preferably) be installed on your OS drive which would best be a SSD - that's two drive total now. Lastly, your cache location should be some high speed large capacity storage (raid array or the like) for both your cases (possibly) and your cache to be stored - that's three (minimum recommended) drives total now.
Hope this is helpful.
