@mattpenrose

Check out the EnCase 6.17 release that came out tonight. Has some better VM support

VMware 6.5 and 7 Support

We are excited to announce we now support EnCase running in a VM environment. Specifically EnCase Examiner and SAFE can be run on
• VMware Workstation 6.5
• VMware Workstation 7.0
• VMware Server 1.1 (GSX)
• VMware vSphere 4.0 ESXi

I used to work at GSI and the point of the Dongle is to control licensing so by design, if I understand what you are trying to do is essentially a hack of the physical dongle to share it amongst multiple machines. For your environment, you may want to contact GSI and switch to a NAS (software-based license) environment as this would allow you to setup and share the license as needed amongst multiple machines as you desire. Also, when RDP'ing make sure to do it in Console Mode as otherwise sometimes it does not load the drivers for the EnCase dongle correctly and make sure that you have the latest dongle drivers. I hope that helps.

I ALWAYS install the DOS drivers AND the GUI because the Aladdin USB Dongle drivers for EnCase have ALWAYS been a problem. I have also heard of other dongle-based softwares causing issues with the EnCase dongles so this is something you may want to look into as well. Not sure what you own of EnCase, but ussually you can switch to NAS for little to no fee, but that is always subject to change. )

VMware vSphere 4.0 ESXi

Still wondering how they circumvented general usb issue in most virtualization technologies. Maybe by using the NAS option.

How much additional cost is the NAS licensing? I dont need a specific price, but a rought estimate would be useful.

About the same price as the amount of licences you want on the NAS, plus a small fee for the NAS dongle I think.
