whoever owned the dongle before would have been emailed when new releases of v5 or 6 is available. i would see if they have a link to the latest version that the dongle was good for in their email.

i do not know if guidance would provide a download link if you contacted them. i doubt they would.

If I remember correctly, you have to register your dongle and you will promptly receive an email with the url links to download the software.

"got your hands on" can have all kinds of implications.

Do you do forensic work for a living? If so, you really need to transfer that license over.

If you bought it off of someone, ask them where the install packet and enscripts are at.

Thank you for your replies, I found the email with the link to download Encase 7 and I am going through the Encase Essentials OnDemand training. I have following questions

a) during the training I saw the instructor copying Encase.cert file in to the "C\Program Files \EnCase7\Certs". Where can I find this file? I was under the impression that no security key is needed if you have dongle.

b) When I run encase it shows "EnCase NoV7 Cert" in the title bar, does it mean I am not authorized to run V7 or I need to find the cert file mentioned above?

Thank you for your help.

armresl I have a legitimate copy which is owned by the organization I work for. My senior has switched to FTK and I am authorized to use Encase.

The E-Mail should have a link to your CERTS file as well as the program download.

You need the cert and the dongle. The person you bought it from should have the email with the downloads for the product and certs. You can go to the guidance registration page and register it your self. It should get you the downloads and cert that you need. Drop the cert into the 'Certs" folder and you should be good to go.

cert & dongle is correct.

The cert file goes to C\Program Files\[EnCase6xx version]\Certs (if default path used), and the dongle goes into the USB port mrgreen

The cert file signature is "ECert[CRLF]V6." (45 43 65 72 74 0D 0A 56 36 2E)
