I am sure this has been asked before but just in case……..

What are the major differences between Encase V7 and FTK5? I am doing research and wish to purchase one or the other. I am just looking for some expert opinions here as I have limited experience with Encase V6.

Thanks all

of course multiple tools are good, but one typically rises to the top (whichever one you prefer)

I guess, like many noobs, I buy into the hype of Encase being the "global standard". Ultimately the choice will not be mine to buy one or any of the tools out there. I work for medium size municipal agency and ma assigned to a local task force. More than anything I would like to obtain some certifications and most of the tools come with training. The only experience with X-Ways is WINHEX…….

I have to say that I am an X-Ways believer! I have access to all three tools (EnCase, FTK, & X-Ways). They are all good tools and have their merits. 90% of what we do is with X-Ways, IEF, & RegRipper. IEF is another tool I am very happy with. It has found the smoking gun on a few occasions.

IMHO reporting is "almost" as important as your analysis. Whatever you find you have to present. I think a lot of tools have forgotten that concept.
