Does anyone have any recommendations for software utilities that will encrypt evidence files that need to be sent to the client on CD/DVD? Preferably, somethng that is then self extracting so that the client does not need to install software at their end.
I have tried a couple of utilities but they seem a little unstable.
Thanks

I remember someone looking into this previously, but not sure what they chose to use. There are many products that do this including ones from EncryptX - SecurDataStor and GuardianEdge - Encryption Anywhere. For a less expensive option Atma Software - 1Lock or Mirage - Multimedia Protector.

Greetings,

TrueCrypt is getting very popular and, as far as I know, it is quite stable. Open source, too. You could create an encrypted volume on your target DVD, open it up, add files to it, close the volume and send it off.

You could use the same tool for encrypting entire images that you're sending, too, helping your shop standardize on one tool.

Thanks for these, I have already started playing with them.

Some of my clients have problems finding their way around Windows so it has to be pretty "idiot proof" in terms of decrypting the files from the CD.

I have looked at Truecrypt, my undestanding is that the client needs admin rights on their PC in order to mount the encrypted volume on their PC and this would be an issue with some clients. Happy to be proved wrong

PGPZIP supports self extracting encrypted files, and it's nearly idiot proof lol
