Does anyone have any experience or knowledge in introducing ESD mats to a digital forensics lab.

How can they be validated in accordance to ISO STANDARD 17025? Any known methods and procedures?

Thanks.

Coincidence! I have been asked to write a presentation prep document about Calibration - ESD Mats.

My previous prep document on ESD https://www.dropbox.com/s/mjdpjyxja4jxqb2/ESDBasics%20update.pdf

Relevant references should be ANSI / ESD S20.20-2014 and ANSI / ESD S 4.1-2006, see here for a detailed procedure

Besides validation (which should IMHO be initially covered by the certifications/tests by the manufacturer) the matter seems more similar to "calibration" in the sense that probably a periodical test is needed to check if the mat has maintained the initial properties, and given the nature of the tests, it is most probably something that you have to commission to an external (qualified) laboratory.

Depending on the nature (and cost) of these mats, it may be easier/cheaper (provided that the manufacturer certifications are considered valid) to periodically just buy new mats.

Still someone will need to determine if these (either "calibration" or replacement) has to be carried out every (say) six months or (still say) 10 years.
