Establish original creation date of deleted file Mac Leopard

I have a client who has unfortunately run some Mac-based recovery routines on his drive to try to locate a deleted file.

Although he managed to locate said file, the creation date was no longer correct.

Can anyone throw me some pointers?

I know I can google with the best of them - but I've had a really, really long day and my brain is quickly turning to mush…

I have X-Ways forensics, as well as the usual data recovery tools.
