Hi
To the well of knowledge I come
I have been asked to pull a couple of PSTs from an Exchange Server 2007 - I don't know the SP level yet, but will know that by tomorrow. This is a friendly collection, we are doing it for them and not for the other side.
I know the preferred method is to use the "Exchange Management Shell"
I understand this is a cmdlet and needs to have the commands entered into the shell - no problem there - i have the cmd structure. We realize this will be a dynamic collection - data will be changing - we can not bring down the servers.
Since we have never done this before
- Is this the best way to do this?
- Can Exmerge not be used anymore with Exchange 2007?
- Does anyone have any instructions on doing this?
- Is it preferred to run the EMS on a WinXP client or the server itself?
- Does the EMS also have a 2GB limit on PST creation like Exmerge did?
I have a couple of links to instructions on how to run the cmdlet - am looking for some real-world-use hints, advise, gotchas etc.
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanx

This may have gotten buried under the onslaught of new threads…. )
Anyone have any information to point me in a tried and true direction?
Thanx

Are you an FTK3 user?
@BitHead
Unfortunately - no. We are still on the 1.x version - have not upgraded.

FTK3 has very good mail handling.
ExMerge has been replaced in Exchange 2007 with the Export-Mailbox cmdlet used through the Exchange Management Shell or you can script it in PowerShell. PowerShell, at least in my experience is easier to deal with.
The only issue I encountered was a limit on the number of messages that can be exported. Upgraded to a newer version of Outlook and have not had an issue.

We're still on Exchange 2003 so can't comment on 2007, however I use Sherpa Software's Discovery Attender for Exchange and have frequently used it to export mailboxes from Exchange including (optionally) from Dumpster. Method I use is to search for all mail before tomorrow's date, I choose all folders but you could just choose Inbox, Sent Items etc.
Reporting is OK via Search Summary (who searched what from which computer), and csv output gives you details on the overall search (e.g. 2 Mailboxes, 9,999 items, 9,999 hits etc) and then list all hits.
Kinda roundabout I know.
It's not free but is also not expensive.
I had issues using Outlook 2003. Using 2010 (although 2007 should work as well).
