Just got a request to collect an encrypted folder in Lotus Notes from a client. This is discovery rather than an investigation, so it doesn't require much more than a written receipt for the information.
However, I've forgotten how to collect email from Lotus Notes without copying the entire .nsf file. I can't lose header information, date/time stamps or the delimiters.
Additionally, the users may be individually encrypting folders within notes. I realize I may need the user.id file, but is there something else I'd need to collect to do the collection?
I haven't worked with Notes since 2002, so I'm a bit rusty. Any help?
Within Notes either the whole database (i.e. .nsf file) or individual documents or fields within the documents are encrypted. In either case you will need the user's id file and his password to access the data. I do not know of folders within Notes being encrypted although all the data within them may be encrypted. You will need to collect the whole .nsf file since you will need other meta-data that is in the .nsf to read the email. You could, of course, copy the .nsf and then delete the unwanted emails and then compact the .nsf to reduce the size.
the user's id file and his password
you will need that. If properly setup the mail admin can issue a recovery password for that user. You'll need that and a backup id file and his id file.
