Hi

Anyone out there got any recommendations on extracting/expanding (whatever the terminology is) from ISO format?

Requirement is brought about by trying to build WinFE using WinBuilder and our IT folks have given me an ISO file rather than CD/DVD which is probably fair enough

I can mount it using MagicDisc but I'm pretty sure I read about problems using mounted ISOs

I've used 7Zip but WinBuilder reckons there's a file missing (1.xml just in case anyone's had the same problem)

Environment is W7 Enterprise SP1 - oh, and I'm looking for open source.

As to why WinFE - sigh - I'm hoping to give IT folks in remote offices some tools to do basic aquisitions from switched-off systems (saves sending original drives and/or computers to different continents) and WinFE seems to be the Windows self-boot option. I've got Raptor 2 in CD and USB, but Linux is a dark art )

Cheers

You should try out IsoBuster, it should work for what you need.

IIRC, 7zip will open ISOs.

Apologies, instead of Open Source I should have said "free"

So ISOBuster's out, and as per my post I've already used 7Zip

Cheers

What you report is very strange.
I normally use 7-zip and never seen such a problem.
However you can mount the .iso in IMDISK and check if the file is there, or simply extract the files from a mounted disk (BTW I never had any problem with any mounted .iso).
Or ask for help on the Winbuilder (and WinFE) support forum, describing the issue in detail AND posting a Winbuilder log.

I use Daemon Tools Lite which is a free product, mount the ISO as a virtual drive and extract whatever is required.
