I've just got my hands on F-Response consultant and was wondering if anyone here uses it much.
There is not much in the way of FAQ or trouble shooting on the website or in the guide.
I'm trying to test on the work network here and getting the below error when I try to run the client file on the target computer
Error - could not connect to the validation server. Verify IP and Port are correct
There is no network firewall in play and both machines have no windows firewall active. I have disable the AV Firewall (Vipre) on my analysis machine. I can ping my analysis machine from the target machine so clearly they can see each other on the network.
Any help would be appreciated.
i use tactical and enterprise
i know for enterprise you have to start the licensing server on a machine and then the remote FR clients contact it via the network to ensure its all good.
with enterprise you preconfigure your client with the licensing IP etc and then push it or put the installer on a share, cd, thumb drive, etc.
consultant is similar to enterprise but you can only use one server against multiple clients, so it should be similar.
im happy to help if you like. just hit me up offline or via IM. you can always call FR as well and they will help.
Thanks Eric, PM sent )
Or at least I tried to PM you, they are sitting in my outbox and doesn't look like it was sent.
I'll look at trying to call FR myself next week if I can't figure this out, 12 hour time difference will make that a bit difficult though.
I'm following the instructions they issue with the software, I will continue trying to see if I can figure this one out.
Okay figured it out.
When I first started up the License Manager component I didn't notice the drop down arrow next to the local IP address, I just accepted what ever was populated there. Upon closer inspection the IP address was merely the top of the list and in this case happened to be a IP address for the VMware adapter rather than the actual physical NIC.
Stopped license manager, selected the correct IP and all is working as it should.
Thanks again Eric )
F-Response's support is absolutely excellent. If you run into issues in the future, I suggest you contact them.
The mission guides are very good, but make sure not to skip any steps. I usually carry the mission guides with me on location to refer to as I start the process.
I use Consultant+Covert, but have used every version except Enterprise.
