Hi,
I recently read that Vista supports a new filesystem named FAT64/exFAT and that this differs in some ways from existing FAT file systems. I don't have a Vista machine to play with, so I was wondering if there are any tools out there for creating or analysing FAT64 volumes.
I'm not certain what purpose FAT64 serves, is this an install time option for the system drive in Vista?

From the few references I read, it's for external devices, not install time. You can use it on Vista SP1 and 2008. It's not interoperable since it's proprietary. So, like NTFS, folks will have to start reverse engineering it before there will be any forensic tools.
<HINT>
Sounds like a great school project for anyone in school.

Is there a minimum capacity to Fat64/exfat ? I would like to research this file system and how it differs.

I'm not sure about a minimum capacity, I guess that would be down to the minimum number of clusters required for the file system data structures factored by the cluster size.
Wikipedia might be a good place to start when researching this, but as always verify your research.
