What does the UFED cost in the market now? I mean the latest version?
Last time we search web for the price it was around US$4800
Has anyone used UFED since the full release of the hex dumping capabilities?
We will receive a test equipment at the end of this week/beginning next. My colleague met one of the cellebrite guys two or three weeks ago on a meeting here in Germany. He said up to know they can handle mor then 330 phones. The price for this unit I don't know up to know

We have been using UFED for nearly 1 year. From the forensic point of view, no product seems perfect (UFED, XRY, Mobiledit). Each have their own negative and positive sides. So, you should have at least a couple of them, one of each should necessarily be UFED as it covers the widest range of phones, not all though.
Secondly, recovering data from the internal memory of a phone is almost impossible with any of the above products even if you have hex dump the internal memory. Because, when you dump the memory, you will have thousands of hex values which you can not interpret into regular characters because you will never know which values include SMS, a contact or any other forensically important data. It is not like FAT or NTFS.
So, do not be fooled by the commercials. Just ask the companies to show you what they say their products could really do.
I should bring JTAG on the table again. in the view of Forensic, JTAG could not be the one because of interface with a mobile phone. Dumping the memory and even further analyzing the data are possible by using JTAG or by accessing the internal memory through the feature of Samsung phones. If you claim that JTAG should be called as Forensic method, I do not want to argue with the claim. However, a stardard rule has been created not because it is true without doubt but because people in this industry promise to do that. In S.Korea, JTAG is the necessary tool for investigators to find out some data from mobile phones.
Who could claim that the method is wrong because they used JTAG?
