Thanks everyone.

Glad this has now been "put to bed".

I heard that there is some 'small print' stating you require the computer for this method to work.

Including this important fact in the press release/release notes would have been wise idea

If I get this right, to sum up, unless you have, besides the iPhone 4S an above, a PC that has been "synced" to that same device, the tool has NO use.

Is the above correct?

I would still use Oxygen if I had the passcode protected iPhone and the computer that it had been backed up to.
Whilst some software (PRTK etc) can sometimes crack a password on an iPhone backup this can be a lengthy process.
Oxygen would appear to do the job much quicker when the phone and backup are available and in that respect it does have a valuable use.

Sure ) , no doubts being a very good tool, but - again - it CANNOT do anything UNLESS a PC to which the iPhone has been synced to is available, that is the point I wanted to make clear.

If you prefer, this sentence
http//www.oxygen-forensic.com/en/events/news/263-oxygen-forensic-suite-2013-v-5-4-extracts-data-from-passcode-locked-ios-devices-adds-physical-acquisition-from-android-os-devices-enables-cross-device-contacts-analysis

Oxygen Forensics, Inc. updates its flagship mobile forensic product, Oxygen Forensic® Suite 2013, to version 5.4 adding the ability to extract information from Apple iOS devices locked with an unknown passcode.

is misleading, whether because it is incomplete or (intentionally) inaccurate, and as Dforensic5 said an "as long as you have available an unlocked computer to which the iPhone has been synced to" added to it would have been more correct.
