So I have to ask because we are having a discussion in a class and I have run out of ideas on searches that can help. As forensics professionals, how do you respond to the discovery that emails of criminal nature originate from a country other than your own? Who do you inform?

I am in the U.S., I know that there are countries who are not overly willing to cooperate with us when it comes to crimes done in our country by someone who is actually located in that other country. How are these cases supposed to be handled especially when they are in the form of emails?

Depending on the Country my understanding is that you might be able to obtain some information with a department letterhead. That's if the Country even cooperates.
Beyond that you might be looking at an MLAT which you would obtain from the FBI or you might need to contact InterPol.

Thank you so much - I really had no idea what direction to go in.
