"I’ll never write to my mistress using the wife’s PC again!"

You could if you used Eraser lol , come on Jeff step over to the dark side for a while and tell us where we could improve Eraser ! We will keep your identity a secret, I promise. wink

Cute.

I hold nothing against file-shredding or data hiding applications - in fact, I make use of them, personally. But from a professional standpoint, my job is to find information, whereas your tool's job is to protect it, and thus stop me from doing my job to the best possible outcome. Professionally, I would be much more sucessful if applications such as Eraser did not exist, or in the least, worked poorly (which many still do, thankfully).

Your proposal is akin to a vault security company trying to get a bank robber to volunteer to test out their newest locking mechanism - without a very good motive, the bank robber will most likely decline to assist because he's watching out for his own self-interest.

Where is my motive? 😉

That was nothing, I can get much cuter than that ! )

So you could see it as helping yourself. Why use a defective file shredder ? We can’t afford to pay you, Eraser is given away free of charge and then there are the site hosting costs etc.

Funnily enough this does happen, I once watched a documentary on car criminals helping manufacturers better protect their cars. Although I must admit for this to work the car criminal had to change their ways, do the right thing and stop being mean. Are you going to stop being mean and help us out ? roll

How about thinking that you are helping good people, honest people protecting their data, reporters risking their lives in oppressive countries needing to clear their tracks etc ?

The intellectual challenge ?

I have a friend who can make you a shiny new avatar of your choice. lol

A bit of fun ?

Or perhaps just to shut me up and show me we are not that clever after all with V6 ?

Oh please, go on Jeff, just find one real flaw with Eraser for us. You might find 2 but only tell us of one and that will give you the satisfaction of having one over me ! I am sure you would like that ! lol

You can sign up with a different username and e-mail address on our forum if you like. I promise I won’t tell anyone. Come on a guy like you with CISSP, EnCE, CCE, Security+, MCP, etc. etc. would be a great help to us. I don’t even know what half of those qualifications mean but they look good and I am sure they will come in handy while you assess Eraser.

Oh, you are a hard man. Do I really have to beg you Jeff ? (

OK Jeff.

I am going to give this one last try. (

I can see you possess a hard and mean reputation here at forensicfocus.com. I understand you must work hard to preserve that unbreakable and heartless persona you have cultivated here over the years.

So I have come up with a way around our problem. I need you to help me with Eraser V6 by using your unquestionable skills at forensic investigation and you need to help me because you use Eraser yourself so you need it to work properly. Our problem is that in order to maintain your tough guy image here you can’t be seen helping me out and showing that you have a kind and helpful side to you.

So…. Why don’t you take inspiration from OJ Simpson ? You could write a book ( or perhaps just fill out some bug reports ) on how you “would” have helped me if you had have done ?

This way I can see how you would have found a problem with Eraser and you can still appear mean, moody and unhelpful !!!

It’s a win - win situation ! D

Come on I have even designed a cover for the book based on OJ’s.

Now will you help me out ? ?

I must congratulate you for your effort.
I only have this to say-
Could I sleep on a night, and give evidence in court the next day, knowing I contributed to an application like this?

NO!!!

Happy New Year to you all

Hi mitch

Could I sleep on a night, and give evidence in court the next day, knowing I contributed to an application like this?
NO!!!

That’s quite a depressing statement to read and it clearly demonstrates a particular attitude towards Eraser. Eraser removes crime it doesn’t create crime !

I suppose your thoughts extend to encryption also ? I am certain you would be one of those who say “If you have nothing to hide why do you need encryption” etc.

Unfortunately only time and experience tells you why programs such as Eraser and encryption software are so very important but although I have the experience I unfortunately don’t have the time to explain it.

Thank you for your post though, even though it was a little depressing to read.

Anyway, thanks to all who have replied to this thread. Eraser now has 6, soon to be 7 forensic experts who like a good humoured challenge and appreciate the importance of software such as Eraser. A few volunteers have come from this site but seeing the attitude of some here I will not name them and leave it to the individuals concerned as to whether or not they choose to identify themselves here.

Thank you Jamie for allowing me to advertise on your forum and I apologise if our work makes your job harder but that is the price of freedom and privacy I’m afraid.

Thanks.

I definitely LOL'd at that last post, Overwriter. I appreciate your enthusiasm and while I understand wanting to recruit the best and brightest in order to make your project work better and become more successful, I still must decline. (

Regarding your counter-points for my participation, that I "use the product myself." I never said I used Eraser - I said I used "them" as in, other anti-forensic apps. I also get enough fun and intellectual challenge with my current job to last me for quite some time. 😉

Between the choice of either participating to help improve the methods for hiding my own personal data and making it more difficult in my professional line of work to obtain evidence or not participating and leaving the state of anti-forensic technology to the status quo - I'll choose the later in a heartbeat.

I have no problems with you soliciting here, though. Like I said, I understand the desire to strive for greatness in what one does and to be the best in what one does.

Hi Jeff. D

I definitely LOL'd at that last post, Overwriter.

Ah well, its all been a bit of good fun hasn’t it ? lol

I have to concede, I tried my best but failed to persuade you ! I am the dog, you are the Frisbee, I missed !

Your reputation on this forum is safe, I don’t care what everyone else says about you, I like you and think you are probably a nice guy deep down ! D

My only consolation is that one day you will be presented with a computer with Eraser V6 installed and you will think of me (fondly I hope) as you struggle in vain to gather any useful information from it !

Thanks for the laughs Jeff, let the forensic battle commence ! lol

All the best and happy new year !

Yes, I'm sure he'll be thinking of you very fondly when the person he's dealing with is a child rapist using your software to cover his tracks!

I'm very glad you find this all very amusing and LOL worthy.
