Test. Install the same version of Skype, make a few chat lines of various type, then see if you can generate the same checksums (if they are checksums). This is of course could get quite cumbersome and complicated. (What fields to include for example.)

Question out of curiosity is there a server somewhere that is dedicated solely for getting exact versions of particular applications? Sometimes vendors or developers only issue their most up-to-date editions of the software. Where might one be able to retrieve an outdated version of say, Skype?

Of course not all-all apps (and possibly also not all-all versions) but it is usually a good start.
