Thanks in advanced for your assistance with this. I was wondering how you can tell the difference between a floppy that was formatted and a floppy that just had all the files delete from it. Also, is there any way to determine the format date?
Thanks.

It may be possible to determine the date a disk was formatted based on the volume serial number - subject to OS version. The following paper by Craig Wilson (written in 2003), may be of interest.

The standard format for a floppy creates the boot record and empty root directory, zeroes the fats and overwrites the data area with F6s. The quick format does not overwrite the data area.
