Hello everybody !
one of my friend has wiped his pendrive using encase twice and now is having problem in reformatting the disk. When tried to reformat/format
the message displayed was " The Disk is write protected ". Tried all the ways of formatting like from commandline, from disk management etc.
Is there a way to format the wiped flash drives ?

Thank you !
Bhanu.

this may seem overly simplistic (usually something daft that I would do) but some USB devices have a read/write protection switch. Are you sure that this is set to write?

They can be write protected either physically or via software.
As the prior post said some units have a tiny switch on them that can be accidentally moved by putting it in your pocket or bag. Do you know the model of the unit? Check the manufacture's web site for a manual and see if it has a switch on it.

Formatting a troublesome USB thumbdrive from a live CD has always worked for me. I would try Parted Magic.

you may also check if USB is not write protected by OS. If it is WinXP check if registry settings
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\StorageDevicePolicies]
is "WriteProtect"=dword00000001
If so change it to dword00000000 value.
