I wouldn't take a case where I don't know what to look for, is where I would start.
Honestly, if something is not your area, farm it out to someone who it is their area. I'm not shy to forward business to other people if it gets to be something I don't feel comfortable working with.
Edit Keeping my comments to myself…..
What is it that you are keeping to yourself when you post something?
Say what you think, I'm a big boy.
Computer forensics and fraud investigation may be kindred spirits but require different abilities. We primarily handle fraud investigation. That said I handle the computer side and have two CPAs (one is a CFE) who handle the financial side of the investigation. Every case we work on requires quite a bit of collaboration, but each side is a unique discipline.
We also do quite a bit of referral work for various CPA firms. The reason is that being a CPA means having a wide and varied background experience. We have been told by quite a few of our CPA clients that unless you focus on audit, and especially fraud, the typical CPA may not have the day to day focus to investigate fraud even though it is well within their capabilities.
