Can anyone provide me with any information/intelligence on file sharing software 'Freenet'.
I am currently examining a machine that has a 500GB encrypted folder within App data under the software Freenet.
I loaded the image into Hyper-V, booted the machine and loaded the software (offline) but didnt really find anything within. The downloads area appeared empty.
I then created my own Hyper-V network of four machines, installed the software and shared a file between them. This file then appeared in the download area of the software on all machines. I then disconnected the network and loaded one machine offline and checked the downloads area and found the file still stored there.
Does this mean that, as the suspects computer's downloads area was empty, he hasnt downloaded anything?! Or am i missing something?
There does appear to be a browser/website area of the software i havent explored yet which im reluctant to as i dont know what i'll be connecting too and im now sure how the software shares and stores data.
If anyone has any information on this program I would be very greatful.
Thanks
Jonathan
Hi,
Just a thought, and perhaps I am missing the point, but could the suspect have downloaded files and then simply moved them?
If you have a read of the Freenet webpage it may help provide the answer you are looking for.
The idea behind Freenet is that each person 'gives up' a portion of their hard disk on their local machine. Files which belong to a user are not stored in their encrypted area, but on another users encrypted area (a remote machine). Therefore other user's store their data in the encrypted area created on the local machine.
