Hello all,

I am new to this site, please excuse me if this is posted in the wrong place or has been posted before (I checked, couldn't find anything).

I am a Digital Forensic student in the UK and for a piece of coursework we are using FTK 2.2.1 on the machines at Uni.

However, I am trying to get a copy for use on my home PC so I can get more work done and it saves me a 40minute trip every time I need to check something or interrogate the drive further.

Does anyone know how to get a copy or have a copy spare?

Cheers
Camo

Camo,

I am not sure if AccessData made a Demo version of FTK 2.2.1 available (I have never tried), they certainly did with v1.x. However this Demo version (without dongle) was restricted to analysing media with only 5000 files on it. If your university is already using a Demo version or you have seen mention of this restriction before then you might be able to go ahead and download it from AccessData's website.

However, here is the caveat… FTK 2.x is extremely resource intensive on a computer and requires you to setup an Oracle DB as part of the installation. I would be very sure that your computer A. has a load of RAM and B. has a load of free disk space before installing it. In our office we set aside a whole HDD just for the Oracle DB.

So if you have things to do in your assignment that are not entirely specific to the version of FTK you are using at university, i.e. you just need to check where a particular file is stored etc. you may be better off downloading an older version of FTK 1.x again on the AccessData website
http//www.accessdata.com/previous.html
This should automatically run in Demo mode without a valid Dongle.

Hope that helps.

I am not sure which AD class it was, but our instructor told us that unless something changes with the relationship with Oracle, there will not be a 2.x/3.x demo version that runs in a limited mode as the older 1.x demo did.
