Is there a specific question beyond what is covered in the AD documentation? AD has white papers on suggested specs, configuring everything on one machine, putting the database on a separate machine, distributed processing….

Can you expound on your question?

Until recently I had the OS on a small SSD and Images and Oracle on seperate 7200 HDDs I was happy with the results. (This was much quicker than when the OS was also on a seperate 7200 HDD)

I have just taken Oracle off the 7200 HDD and put it onto a second SSD (Crucial M4).

The speed increase is impressive (Prelimary tests for Processing and Indexing a 500GB image with just over 1 Million items were about 7 times quicker)

My next step will be to put images onto a third SSD when finances allow.
.
I run Windows 7 64 bit, OCZ Vertex 2E SSD for C Drive, 24GB Ram and an I7 Processor.

I would advise SSD for OS and SSD for Oracle.

Hope this helps.

You might want to do a bit more research on ssd performance over time before jumping with joy of the 7x figure. Over time being the crucial bit (no pun intended) of that sentence.

See this

I expect you will see an improvement but it might end up being less than you originally expected

I read quite a bit before taking the SSD Plunge and I also had concerns about disk logevity.

However, from practical experience I have had no problems with the OS on an SSD and it seems to be as quick as when I fitted it a year ago.

I know three other people with similar machine set ups that have been used for running FTK3 for around the same amount of time and the SSD drives (For OS only) in none of their machines have caused any problems.

I also researched traditional Hard Drives a few months ago. Every one that I considered and then Googled had a review by somebody who thought it was the most unreliable one ever made or a waste of money compared to another drive.

I think it is healthy to be sceptical about new products that promise amazing improvements I also try to use the same principle when reading reviews.

Should there be a problem running Oracle on SSD I will post an update.

Approximately 18 months ago I posted to say that I was running SSD drives for OS and Oracle in my forensic machine and I would post if I had any problems with the disks.

I am pleased to say that I have had no problems and the disks appear to be as quick as ever.

Christ was that 8 months ago - if yo'd asked me when I posted on this thread I would have said less than 6 months
