My query is regarding commercial use of demo or trial version software provided by Access Data (FTK).

Does anyone know about the licensing limitation of FTK Software with respect to its Trail, Demo or free versions for commercial purpose.

If you have any link, document or snapshot mentioning the limitation of its commercial use do kindly share it.

There appears to be no licensing limitation of FTK Software with respect to its Trail, Demo or free versions for commercial purpose. However, I believe the MAX number of files that can be viewed by the trial version is 250 (FTK 1.8). The legal notice provided by Access Data is in relation to the unauthorized modification of the software and no mention is made about its terms of use.

I believe that they can give you a 30 day trial that is fully functional (at least thats what they've done for us a few times). But I'm not too sure if there are limitations with that as well, I'm sure at some point they will stop giving you trials and say that you have to buy it. I've tried other products and FTK is far superior to others like encase.

I dont think it is wise to use demo/trial version of software doing your investigation. People in the opposite side will ask you on this in the court to embarrass you.

If you dont have much budget, why dont you just use open source tools? There are plenty of choices.
