Anyone else as gobsmacked as I am at the price hike in the annual subscription for FTK?
I've just been invited to renew for a cool £525 before VAT.
Last year, the invoice was for £215 before VAT.
That's some difference !
And all I've had in the last 12 months is the dubious 'benefit' of a piece of software that's received the worst customer response in history.
In fact, news on the wires regarding FTK 2 has been so consistently bad that I've never dared take mine out of the box.
Seriously considering voting with my feet.
Maybe 2.0 is why the want to buy Guidance.
In my experience of running the next version of FTK 2.1, which is due for release soon, its been fine. Didn't bother even installing 2.0 because of the stories I read here and elsewhere. 2.1 installs on Vista/ Server 2008 and on 64bit versions now and I've had no issues with it so far, touch wood.
Is that the 2.1 that was supposed to be officially released December 2nd?
Is that the 2.1 that was supposed to be officially released December 2nd?
It looks like it's out now if you check the FTK forums.
I got the Pre-release E-Mail, I just did not see the link on the downloads page for the actual release version.. I will check the forum.
It's a shame, common sentiment in the software industry appears to be"abuse thy customer"..
Might be time to consider some alternatives… X-Ways, SMART, MacForensicsLab, etc.
Started with X-Ways a long time ago (bought it as a birthday present to myself). I use it while FTK is processing (and crashing and re-processing and crashing and . . .)
