Rather than persuading the flasher box companies it could be worth talking more to the current forensic tool vendors.

I know that XACT allows the use of RJ45 cables already so maybe the step to reading/resetting handset lock codes etc could be sooner than we think?

Another good point - there's UFEDPE too - one would hope that the forensic vendors could provide us with fuller logs/audits if they were required.
