Hi all,

Have any of you have used Google Desktop in an investigation? If yes, did it ever go to court? Has it ever been challenged as an investigation tool?

The question came out of curiosity. I have read various posts about using Google Desktop as a part of lab kit. Since it's not exactly a forensic tool I was wondering if evidence prepared with a use of it may be put in question. I am just checking if this happened to anyone before I start looking in benefits of GD.

I asked a similar question to this a while back and am still working on a paper about it. I've put it down for the time being, as I'm very busy with other things.

Thanks dfarmer03, I came across your post earlier. At this point I am not particularly interested in evidence value of GD indexes found on suspect machine. I am more into using GD to index and search through the evidence in the same way one would use dtSearch or FTK (just indexing). As far as I know GD it should work. The question is would the evidence prepared with a use of GD be accepted in the court of law. I have a feeling that it would be.
I’d like to hear from people who went down this road.
