Hard drive not seen

I had something similar just lately. A 2.5" SATA HDD, made noises from the spinning disk, but no clicky clicky, and not recognised by the system.

I then discovered it was a 1.8" disk inside a 2.5" housing, and the controller board from the SATA interface to the ZIF interface was kuput. Once I connected directly to the ZIF slot via the write blocker, no problems.

And yes…it was a Dell flaptop too.

Has anyone come across this? The drive doesn't click, but it isn't seen by the local machine or forensic tools(on Windows).

(Please don't post "put it in the freezer, that totally works for me")
