From time to time we clean-up our lab and I wanted to stress test the test drives (2,5", 3,5" HDD and SSD, eMMC M.2 modules).

Its sad if within a test the drive breaks down. This we want to avoid by stress testing the drives before.

What strong free application to stress test the drives would you recommend for Win/Mac/Linux?

In order to do what, exactly?

You choose the tools to fit the experiment or test you want to perform, and the information you want to get out of it.

Or you choose a tool used in a previous test because you want to be able to relate the results from that test to the test you want to perform.

By budget restaints we have little aged drives. By stress testing we want to avoid unexpected outages on projects we run non virtualized by VMware self-mirroring.

May its old school. But heavy load on drives brings them to the limit by IOPS and temperature.
