hi all,
recently i got a problem in my computer.because it doesnt allow me to chek the show hidden files check box. i did some registry edits and even format the machine twice but it didn work out. do you guys knw how to resolve this issue..
Are you sure you haven't got/had a virus. That's the sort of thing that viruses commonly mess up.
Ditto what Rich said, a few malware affect admin\registry access. Had one recently that wouldn't let me open control panel and it needed a clean install. (Didn't have time or inclination to trace it).
i have installe norton internet security and it didn catch the virus.is there any suggestion where i can get some close help
Quite a bit of malware hides from and disables tools designed to detect the threat. So Norton may be thwarted.
Are you familiar with Hijack-This or Sysinternals Process Explorer? Those programs would certainly allow a better analysis of what is running and what may be causing the issue. Of course wiping the drive and starting from scratch is often faster and results in a cleaner system, unless you really want to know the cause of the problem. In that case you could clone the drive and analyze it later once you are running.
i tried with hijak too.but it didn workout. is there any other tool where i can get some help.
You did not see anything in the log? Do you have your Hijack-This log?
yeah i have the log with me. and even i have tried with some registry editing things but that also didn work out well.
Am I right in thinking that when you say you formatted the machine twice you mean you formatted the drive and installed a fresh operating system?
If so how can it be malware???
crutey thats true i did it twise but the problem is still there. even i have install some antivirus prducts and scan the whole thing.but still didn work out.
