Hi i am new here and i am trying to find additional hidden information to a word document that looks like it was altered and then "saved as" based on another copy that has different information in it.
the second document has a different name though similar but the original was a read only doc hence the new name having to be "saved as" and not just saved. i used "TRACE" and it gave me some information but not a lot and nothing incredably explicit although i didn't quite understand all.
are there any other tools out there that could help me see into the document. micros or free tools or steps. i did the "recover text from any file" view and i think microsoft attempted to change the program a bit to make it safer.
any thoughts? any programs?
side note the original document had 11 revisions and the second document had 2. it was odd to me because it was a compensation document from a business and i assume that it was a template of sorts that was reused with names and numbers, etc. changed.

There's quite a bit of metadata available, not only in the OLE streams, but in the binary file header itself. There's a free Perl module available that will help you…

Yes, it can, but it's based on the MS API. If you need to do something similar, but don't want to do so on Windows (or do, but don't want to go through the API), try the module.
