The file is not stored in sections. I have many videos and each video is a single file of more than1 GB (7-8 hours of recording). The video does not have a built in display clock, how may I get a built in clock? I resorted for now to put a true clock in the camera's view and add written on paper the date.
To modify a single file, on the fly is probably impossible. Frame lengths would be different and it is possible that frame pointers may be stored in memory until the file is complete.
An interesting test to try with your recording software is to start recording, and after maybe 30 mins just do a power off of the laptop -ie hold the power button down. I suspect that the AVI will not be playable - though VLC will probably be able to regenerate the index. This would indicate that the pointers are only added when the file is complete.

I will try and let you know
yes you seem to be correct
I've just tried to record some videos. In one case I recorded the video and while the camera was still filming I turned off the pc using the operating system menu, that is clicking on the switch off options in the menu. The video in this case could still be played. Then I recorded a video and in the middle of the recording (1 minute later, but I suspect the same for longer videos would happen) I switched the pc off using the switch off button (the hardware switch on the pc). The video interrupted this way is corrupted, errors, none of the media players I have will play the file.
Would be however interesting to know which way they could try and modify the video, if there is a way, how to spot signs and how to find the relevant logs on the pc
This morning I found out that the pc had frozen up for some time. I tried to unfreeze the pc using the keyboard to no avail. I had to switch off, re-switch on the pc again. The result is that the video could not be played afterwards. A question, is there a way to repair the video? Is there any way that I can check interactions on the pc logs (where should I be searching for them?)? What if the software installed was modified. How should I check if the software is fake?
VLC might play it - by re-indexing first.

I do not know wxactly how to reindex the video. What I tried is I downloded the K Li te codec pack and now the video plays. I tried to experiment what was suggested in a previous post, to turnoff the pc while recording holding the off button pressed. I tried watching using the K Li te codec pack but this time I did not succeed, however I found a program Staxrip - s264 I opened the file using the DGAVC Index application and the file now is visible, even if stops if I play continuously and gives errot. However I was wandering, how do you re-index a video? How do you make the video compatible to a common player such as VLC? Which informations on the pc logs should I be looking for is files have been corrupted or software modified?
The index structure is fairly simple - though I seem to remember there are two types of index.
Very simply the file is scanned for certain tags, eg 00dc, 01wb and index is then built at the end of the file.
I have a PDF called avi.pdf that you might find with a bit of Google help. This gives more details. If not, PM me
Is the laptop only recording video or is audio also being recorded. As if audio is also being recorded then you may be able to pick up any keyboard or mouse pad button click as if the video is being edited while recording is taking place (which I believe is very highly unlikely) then the pressing of keyboard and mouse pad button click must surely be being recorded.
I understand the above suggestion is really obvious so no making fun of my reply please guys )

hello,
what I just posted is the evevt view on my laptop as this morning just after midnight the pc froze up again. the problem occurred at around 0030. Could anyone see anything unusual or is this not the right log I should search for? I went into Event viewer then Windows Logs then System. I then had to switch off manually the pc then restart and I started recording again. Could this be that the pc is being induced to freeze up using some sort of remote command? Or is this due to the fact that I run different application that might cause some sort of conflict? When I restarted I avoided opening apps of any type. I use WEindows 8
I record sounds as well, yes, but when the pc freezes up then the video does not record them
