I guess just looking for clarification as to when the IACIS Basic Computer Forensic Examinations (BCFE) training event might occur. I see that the enrollment process is opening on March 1st?
Per their website it would seem May 2 - May 13 in Florida
Although note that the training is distinct from the certification process you don't need to complete it to join the certification track.
I'm a little confused as to why this would impact on the CCE. As a holder of this certification I'm a little concerned that this subject has arisen.
Also, Patrick you may be in a better position than most to answer, but will the CFCE be available solely in the USA to begin with due to the vetting and background check requirements?
I'm interested in the both training (for myself and to evaluate for my staff) and certification - and am wondering if there will be any training offered in Europe in English. I note that there have previously been sessions in Germany, but there's nothing on the calendar for Europe as yet for this year.
With respect to the background checks - Intelius (who own the Talentwise trademark) do have operations throughout Europe.

CCE is a fine certification and would be in my top 3 since it's not tool-centric. Both CCE and CFCE and their orgs have recently undergone changes and it's too soon to call on what the effects of those changes will be in the long term.
Part of the reason why it took 6 months between the announcement and the availability for non-LEO was getting a background check capability internationally. I believe that if IACIS has settled on a background check vendor, then the board is satisfied that they can service the international member base. Last I heard, the "I" in "IACIS" still stands for "International". )
And to clarify Doug's question
Training continues to be limited to LEO/Gov.
Certification is open to all qualified applicants.
IACIS competencies are published on the web here http//
. . .
Training continues to be limited to LEO/Gov.
Certification is open to all qualified applicants. . . .
You are losing a revenue stream that is much more lucrative than LE/Gov, in my opinion.
I also cannot comprehend how IACIS came up with this, unless simply logistics or volume issue. If a non-LEO/Gov can take the test, it already implies they have sufficient knowledge that is taught in these classes.
Just my two ringgits.
So if I am to understand this correctly
IACIS membership and training are still LE only.
After March 1st non-LE can start the enrollment process that then begins peer review on June 1. Pass peer review then you have a few months to do the certification part.
If you are a IACIS qualifying member you can go to the various training sessions during this time.
Is that correct?
Correct based on what I know.
And JHup, IACIS is a non-profit founded almost 2 decades ago to provide training etc to LEOs. Certification grew out of that as a natural continuation, but frankly, many of us believed that it was pointless to prevent everyone from having access to the same certification as us so we pushed to have it opened.
The training is conducted by volunteers who volunteer specifically for the purpose of providing training to LEOs. A lot of them wouldn't volunteer or would be prevented by their employers from volunteering outside of that purpose. Therefore, other than generating sufficient revenue to keep things running, IACIS is not driven by a profit motive.
Tony thanks for the input and clarity!
