Hi All
I am busy trying to expand our Cyberforensics Unit, and my efforts to recruit from outside have been unsuccessful. The sad reality, is that the pool of actual experienced computer forensic examiners, especially with a comprehensive law enforcement background is limited, and the very that there are command salaries in the private sector that I simply cannot match on government salary scales.
I know that law enforcement agencioes around the globe have often identified members with the right apptitude/interest/mindset, and developed them into computer forensic examiners.
What I would like to know from law enforcement, and former law enforcement members of this forum, is how various agencies have actually gone about the process of identifying people with the right stuff. I need to get a strategy in place that is "tested" so to speak, so that I can try and convince my higher ups that this is the way to go…..they seem to have this notion that we need to go to Universities and recruit BSc Computer Science graduates, but my gut is telling me I still need someone with an investigative mindset, apptitude and experience….any advise would be greatly appreciated.
